Finca Quejiná is located in the Huehuetenango region which is the highest and driest area in Guatemala and one of the three regions that doesn’t have volcanic soil but loads of moisture from rivers and streams that can be found almost anywhere in the area. Huehuetenango is often referred to as “Huehue” pronounced like the “whe” in where.
In the local Mayan dialect, “quejiná” translates to “haunted house”. It was believed the abandoned black house was cursed and anyone who entered...never returned. But Nicolás Ramírez acquired the farm and has been delivering hauntingly good coffee ever since. Before Quejiná became a coffee farm, Nicolás actually preserved the 2.25 acres as a natural forest for the last 10 years. Today, he continues his commitment to protecting the forest’s environment while farming his coffee.
